“Housing Key to Transit,” an op-ed piece in Sunday’s Courant by Shelby Mertes, Partnership for Strong Communities, and Oz Griebel of the Metro Hartford Alliance, makes the case that housing development near train stations can reduce transportation costs, support local businesses and raise sales tax revenue, increase property tax revenue, and create jobs. Also, Shelby Mertes spoke about the importance of housing development located near rail in a conversation on WNPR’s Where We Live on March 5 about the Springfield to New Haven commuter rail line.
